Prettying Up the Bathroom

Since we added a little man to the mix of kiddos, it didn't seem quite right to have a fairy-themed bathroom.  We also needed a more neutral look when we had the house up for sale last year.  Not wanting to put a whole lot of money into changing things, we opted for a plain white curtain and rug to replace the blue & green fairies.

But the overall effect?  It seemed to reflect the yellow
and just looked really blah.

After browsing my options for a curtain, I decided I liked the simple look of gray & white stripes.

I liked the look of this shower curtain, but didn't want to spend that much for it.  I'm not a cheapskate...really... ;-)

Enter this idea -- DIY Painted Shower Curtain!  After looking it over, I decided to give it a try.  I had an unopened bottle of paint in my craft stash and thought the gray would go well with the bright yellow walls.

The curtain was 70" long minus the 2" strip at the top where the hooks go through.  I measured -- and measured again -- making little marks every 10 inches.  When taping off you have to make sure that the tape is on the white stripe of the curtain so you can fill in the full 10 inches of gray.  I put an X on the sections that were to be gray, just to help me make sure I'd taped things off correctly before I started painting.

I didn't use any special fabric paint, just plain ol' acrylic.  It did make the fabric of the curtain a little stiff, but not too bad.

Make sure that you have your work surface covered.  The paint saturates the fabric and can get a little messy.

I set a fan on it to help it dry faster.

Of course I have to put something up on the walls.  I found these frames at Michael's for $1 each & found a sheet of scrapbook paper that matched the walls.

I used the paper from the frame as a template to cut out the scrapbook paper.

Miss C helped me paint the frames the same gray as the shower curtain.

I put a second coat on to make sure everything was covered and that there weren't any crazy brush strokes.

Looks pretty, but still a bit plain.

I found some foam stickers if my box-o-craft-stuff & decided to paint them gray, too.  It took about 3 light coats to cover them.

Ta-dah!

Here is the comparison.

I think it makes quite a difference, don't you?

More pictures to come once I finish hanging things on the walls.  I'm still not sure where everything is going to go.
